Do you need additional cover in Korea?
Start with what you already have.
Start with the financial problem you want to prepare for and the support you already have. Having a concern does not automatically mean another insurance policy is the right answer.

02Workplace cover
03Existing policies
04Available savings
Map the support you already have
Check your NHIS position, cover arranged through work, existing private policies and savings you could use. These serve different purposes. A policy name alone does not establish whether a particular expense is covered.
Name the gap you are concerned about
Is it an out-of-pocket medical cost, a disruption to income or another household expense? Clarify the actual situation and the support available before considering another policy. NHIS eligibility and benefits should be checked with NHIS for your circumstances.
Compare the next step
If existing support addresses the concern, the next step may simply be to understand it better. If a gap remains, compare relevant options, ongoing cost and conditions. Do not assume that private cover replaces any obligation to join NHIS.
Keep your plans in view
Plans for leaving Korea need checking against the actual contract. Do not assume that cover will continue or end automatically. The useful question is what you want to prepare for, and which options fit your situation.
Sources & further checks
This guide explains general considerations, not an individual recommendation. Check your actual policy and relevant official guidance. Sources do not imply endorsement.
Check current eligibility and any exemption directly with NHIS; circumstances and requirements can differ.
